An indefinite bus strike which lasted for three days was called by private bus operators in Kerala demanding fare revision. It was called off following discussions between Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan and representatives of the bus owners' associations.
The bus owners agreed to resume services immediately following an assurance given by the Chief Minister that their demand for fare revision would be considered. According to sources, the government is likely to effect an increase of 50 paise in the minimum charge from the present Rs 3.50.
