The golden jubilee Kerala State School Youth Festival got off to a colourful start on 9th of January,2010, and 9,000 wards from high school and higher secondary school sections across the state showcase their talent in the week-long cultural extravaganza.
The festival was formally inaugurated by education minister MA Baby at the function presided over by local MLA and state minister Binoy Vishwam.
A colourful procession showcasing the unique cultural traditions of the historic city and other parts of Kerala preceded the inaugural function. Hundreds of people watched the students' procession that began from the Malabar Christian College grounds and culminated at the Mananchira grounds, the main venue of the festival.
The competitions will be held in 16 venues located in 2-km radius of the city. The organising committee has made elaborate arrangements to provide food and accommodation to the participating students and teachers accompanying them.
