Actor Cochin Haneefa Passed Away

The veteran South Indian actor, Cochin Haneefa who was at the prime age of 58 had eventually succumbed to liver cancer and died at a private hospital at Chennai. His noteworthy acts such as the rowdy in ‘Kireedom’, the comic stage actor in ‘Mannar Mathai’, boat owner in ‘Punjabi House,’ and listless enduring works shall be remembered forever.
He was a versatile actor, director and writer in Malayalam, Tamil and Hindi films. Reflecting on his earlier stage of his career, Haneefa was best known as a mimicry artiste before entering into the tinsel world in 1972 with the film Azhimukham. But it was in his role as a baddie that his image soared in Malayalam and Tamil movies. Later he excelled in comedy and character roles in films like 'Thalavattam', 'Kireedom', 'Kinnaripuzhayoram', 'Mannar Mathai', 'Meesa Madhavan', 'Ee Parakkum Thalika', 'Soothradharan' (for which he won the Kerala State Award for best actor), 'Swapnakoodu' and others.

‘Paasa Paravaighal’ evolved him as an eminent writer-director, which had dialogues by the current Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, who expressed shock at his death. Haneefa is exclusively remembered for his direction of ‘ Valsalyam’, scripted by Lohitadas where Mammootty starred in the lead. Apart from his magnanimous personality as a highly talented person, he was is impeccably a great human being. Haneefa’s whose actual name is Salim Ahmad, is a hysteria in South film industry.

He has left his landmark in Tamil cinema with his notable work in ‘Mahanadi’, Shankar's ‘Anniyan’ and ‘Sivajii ‘. His last tamil film was ’ Vettaikaran’ with Vijay and malayalam was Body Guard with Dileep. His enduring memories will still continue even after his demise. Haneefa continues to live even after his soul has bid farewell to the world!
